United States Justice Department Drops Michael Flynn’s Case
On Thursday, May 7th, 2020, the United States Justice Department, has asked the court to dismiss the case against Rt Gen Micheal Flynn. President Donald Trump fired Flynn on December 2nd, 2017 and since then he has been in and out of court. Micheal Flynn was charged with lying to the FBI and involving himself in matters with foreign countries without authorization.
The Justice Department said it dropped the case “after a considered review of all the facts and circumstances, including newly discovered and disclosed information”. Also, the Justice Department said it had concluded that the interview by the FBI was unjustifiable and was not conducted under any legitimate investigative basis.

Who Is Michael Flynn?
Michael Thomas Flynn (born December 24, 1958) is a retired United States Army Lieutenant General who was briefly the National Security Advisor to President Donald Trump. In 2017 he pleaded guilty to making false statements to the FBI in relation to the Special Counsel’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 elections. In 2020, the U.S. Department of Justice dropped the charges against Flynn.

Flynn’s military career included a key role in shaping U.S. counterterrorism strategy and dismantling insurgent networks in Afghanistan and Iraq, and he was given numerous combat arms, conventional, and special operations senior intelligence assignments. He served as the 18th Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency, serving from July 2012 until his forced retirement from the military in August 2014. After leaving the military, he established Flynn Intel Group, which provided intelligence services for businesses and governments, including ones in Turkey. He became a senior advisor to Trump during his presidential campaign and served as the National Security Advisor from January 23 to February 13, 2017. He resigned after information surfaced that he had misled the FBI and Vice President Mike Pence about the nature and content of his communications with Russian Ambassador to the U.S. Sergey Kislyak. Flynn’s tenure of just 24 days is the shortest in the office’s history.

Michael Flynn’s Case
The charges against Micheal Flynn were brought by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, as part of his investigation into alleged Russian meddling in the 2016 US election.
In a statement on 1 December, Mr. Flynn admitted that it had been “extraordinarily painful to endure these many months of false accusations of ‘treason’ and other outrageous acts”.
He continued: “Such false accusations are contrary to everything I have ever done and stood for. But I recognize that the actions I acknowledged in court today were wrong, and, through my faith in God, I am working to set things right.”
“My guilty plea and agreement to cooperate with the Special Counsel’s Office reflect a decision I made in the best interests of my family and of our country. I accept full responsibility for my actions.”

Michael Flynn And Trump
Micheal Flynn was an avid supporter of Trump during his campaign. After President Donald Trump won the election, Flynn described it as a “revolution”. Trump has described him as a “good man” and said that his actions during the transition were lawful. Donald Trump has also been very expressive about Flynn’s case.
On Sunday, March 15th, Trump tweeted “So now it is reported that, after destroying his life & the life of his wonderful family (and many others also), the FBI, working in conjunction with the Justice Department, has ‘lost’ the records of General Michael Flynn. How convenient.
“I am strongly considering a Full Pardon!”
On Thursday 30th April, President Donald Trump said that Michael Flynn, his former national security advisor, and a convicted felon, had been “tormented” by “dirty cops” at the FBI.
Trump’s remarks, made during a meeting about the coronavirus at the White House, came after he sent more than a dozen tweets and retweets supporting Flynn and decrying the FBI’s handling of his criminal case.
“They were trying to force him to lie,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office, appearing to reference new documents that were revealed in Flynn’s case Wednesday night.
“General Flynn is a fine man,” Trump said. “You don’t get to where he is by being bad … he’s in the process of being exonerated.”

Today Trump Tweeted: “Congratulations to former Governor of New Jersey, Chris Christie, and all others involved, on a complete and total exoneration (with a 9-0 vote by the U.S. Supreme Court) on the Obama DOJ Scam referred to as “Bridgegate.” The Democrats ….are getting caught doing very evil things, and Republicans should take note. This was grave misconduct by the Obama Justice Department!”
While some consider this a political move, a complete breakdown of justice and a breach of the rule of law, others believe that Flynn’s case should have been dropped sooner.
