What The Covid-19 Vaccine Offers
The Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine – a collaboration between a US pharmaceutical giant and a German biotechnology company – offers up to 95% protection and is the first Covid-19 vaccine to be approved by US regulators.
The Covid-19 Vaccine Distribution
On TIME, Gen Gus Perna who is in charge of logistics for the United States federal vaccine program on Saturday said he expects 145 pharmacies, hospitals, and clinics to receive doses Monday, 425 on Tuesday, and the remaining 66 on Wednesday. Health workers at each recipient site must personally sign off on the delivery. The government and distributors say 24-hour hotlines have been established in case of any trouble.
The first recipients of the vaccine doses will be health care workers, including people who work in hospitals, long-term care facilities, home health care, pharmacies, emergency medical services as well as in public health, and older Americans living in skilled nursing or long-term care facilities.” He said, “The vaccine is not expected to be widely available to most Americans until springtime.
As promised, the first vaccine was administered to a front-line health worker Sandra Lindsay, a Black ICU nurse from New York. Ms. Lindsay who has been at the forefront of the battle with Covid-19 since the beginning of the pandemic decided to have a public vaccination because according to her, she hoped her public vaccination would instill confidence that the shots were safe.
“I have seen the alternative, and do not want it for you,” she said. “I feel like healing is coming. I hope this marks the beginning of the end of a very painful time in our history.”
Governor Andrew Coumo in a speech immediately after the vaccine was administered said “I believe this is the weapon that will end the war.”
Later, he tweeted:

Sandra Lindsay, an ICU Nurse at Long Island Jewish Medical Center in Queens, became the FIRST AMERICAN to get vaccinated in a non-trial setting.

In other news, Pfizer CEO Dr. Albert Bourla said the company is negotiating with the federal government to provide an additional 100 million Covid-19 vaccine doses next year.

Precautions To Take After Getting The Covid-19 Vaccine
As more people get vaccinated, it is important to note that Covid-19 precautions that have been used for the past months should not be stopped. The Covid-19 vaccine makes sure you do not fall really ill and have to go to the hospital but it does not remove the likelihood that you will spread the virus to others. Masks should still be worn to prevent contaminating others whether you have taken the vaccine or not.
Social distancing and restrictions on large gatherings will probably remain, to curb the death toll until enough Americans get vaccinated for everyone to develop herd immunity against the virus.
