Guinness World Record Declares Hilda Baci’s Record
After weeks of anticipation, the momentous announcement was made! Hilda Baci has finally been officially recognized by the Guinness World Records (GWR) as the record holder for the longest cooking marathon.
With her unwavering determination and bubbling personality, Baci left an indelible mark on Nigeria back in May. Garnering so much support around the continent as she set out to break the world record for the longest cooking marathon.
Longest Cooking Marathon
Hilda cooked for 100 hours, however, the record given to her by the GWR was for 93 hours 11 minutes, with seven hours docked for taking extra time during one of her breaks. Regardless, she beat the previous record holder Chef Lata Tondon’s time by more than 5 hours.

“Hilda Baci Cook-a-thon” as she dubbed the record-breaking event, took place in Lekki, Lagos. There was no GWR official in attendance but the cooking challenge was highly publicised with the entire culinary marathon streamed live. It was this footage that was eventually reviewed.
With a determination as strong as iron and an unwavering focus, Chef Baci fearlessly embarked on this challenging expedition, fully conscious of the physical and mental toll it would exact. Right from the beginning, armed with resilience and a burning passion for culinary excellence, Chef Baci took the plunge, knowing that the road ahead would be grueling, yet filled with invaluable lessons and triumphs.
In a post-event interview with TVC news, she talked about almost giving up, “I was up for 12 hours, not resting… and when I started, 6 hours in, my body had started to tell. It was like “You need to shut down,”. In that moment I looked at the crowd and it dawned on me, what I was embarking on and the thought of failure dawned on me as well… and I just had the worst anxiety…”
It was evident that the 27-year-old had exerted herself but she kept pushing on. During her breaks, she had cold compresses applied to her head, as well as foot massages. A medical assistant was also on standby to check her vital signs.
Hours turned into days, as Baci tirelessly cooked her way to her longest cooking marathon record. She navigated sleep deprivation, exhaustion, and intense pressure, all while maintaining a cheerful disposition.
Finally, she successfully completed the gruelling cooking marathon, surpassing the previous record and etching her name in the annals of culinary history. Except, it would take a month to officially confirm her win.
The Record Announcement
The announcement came this past Wednesday in a tweet on the Guinness World Record official account.
This recognition from GWR has been well anticipated. In fact they had this to say; “Hilda’s cook-a-thon was in fact so popular that our website crashed for two days due to the immense volume of traffic we received from her legion of loyal fans,” GWR said.
Hilda Inspires Chef Dami
Her cooking milestone has even inspired cooks around the continent to take on the record-breaking feat themselves. Most popular is chef Dami from Ekiti receiving mixed responses to her attempts on breaking the record.
Regardless, Hilda showed selfless support to her colleague. She made an encouraging tweet out to Chef Dami.:
