Most Anticipated Movie Releases This December

The holidays are here and after a tasking year, we finally get to stay at home for a few weeks invested in nothing but Christmas enjoyment. It’s my favorite season!

But at this time of the year, you know the cinemas are going to be packed. So I want to help you prepare in advance. We’ve come up with a list of 5 of the most anticipated movie releases coming out in December. So you know exactly what you’re going to watch before you get there. (You can also find some Christmas themed movies from last year here.)

Avatar: The Way of Water

After waiting over a decade, they have finally decided to bless us with another Avatar movie. And no, I’m not talking about the air-bending one, I mean the giant blue ones.

After the long anticipated wait, an official trailer dropped in November, announcing that the movie will be in cinemas by December. To say we’re excited would be an understatement.

We got the first teaser for The Way of Water in May, which not only introduced us to the title but gave us a glimpse into the beautiful world of Pandora again.

The movie was originally set to be released in December 2021 but was pushed back due to the pandemic. Now not only is this release confirmed, but this is also going to kickstart a succession of other sequels up until Avatar 5.

Synopsis

Jake Sully and Ney’tiri have formed a family and are doing everything to stay together. However, they must leave their home and explore the regions of Pandora. When an ancient threat resurfaces, Jake must fight a difficult war against the humans.

Violent Night

I know what you’re thinking “Ohh another Santa clause movie, we’ve seen them all.” But I bet you haven’t seen a dark holiday, action-packed Father Christmas story like this before.

With David Harbour from Stranger things, I don’t think you’re going to want to miss this one.

Synopsis

When a team of mercenaries breaks into a wealthy family compound on Christmas Eve, taking everyone inside hostage, the team isn’t prepared for a surprise combatant: Santa Claus (David Harbour) is on the grounds, and he’s about to show why this Nick is no saint.

Babylon

With a star-studded cast and a chaotic trailer, Babylon is another exciting release this December.

Margot Robbie, Brad Pitt, Tobey Maguire, Olivia Wilde, and Jean Smart are some of the popular faces that you’re going to see in this movie about old Hollywood and the silent movie era.

Synopsis

Decadence, depravity, and outrageous excess lead to the rise and fall of several ambitious dreamers in 1920s Hollywood.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish

Matthew Perry’s Death

This Christmas season everyone’s favorite sword-fighting, leche-loving, the fearless cat is back for another Shrek universe adventure.

This one is great for the kids and knowing Puss in Boots, funny enough to keep the adults entertained as well.

Synopsis

Puss in Boots discovers that his passion for adventure has taken its toll: he has burnt through eight of his nine lives. Puss sets out on an epic journey to find the mythical Last Wish and restore his nine lives.

I Wanna Dance with Somebody

2022 has brought us quite a few movies/shows based on the lives of old celebrities. With Elvis back in June (based on the late Elvis Presely), Blonde (based on the late Marilyn Monroe), and Tommy and Pam (based on Tommy Lee Jones and Pamela Anderson) just to name a few. And it’s giving us another Whitney Houston biopic.

Whether this movie is going to focus on her successes as a musician or capitalize on her failed marriage, a drug problem and closeted sapphic identity like the others have done, remains to be seen. We’ll just have to watch and find out.

Synopsis

Discovered by record executive Clive Davis, Whitney Houston rises from obscurity to international fame in the 1980s to become one of the greatest singers of her generation.
