24 People Share Their Positive Stories From The Pandemic

Finally, 2021 is here, and if you’re reading this, it means you saw through all the hurdles of the year 2020 and emerged radiant and phenomenal like a phoenix from fire—alive.

While a lot of people may have negative things to say about the pandemic and global lockdown, I’ve compiled extensive feedback from varied social platforms. Most of these stories are from individuals who were willing to share their panic and positive stories from the pandemic.

These stories are so full of life, hope, and resilience, that you cannot help but wonder if our vulnerability as humans isn’t truly our superpower.

Do come along, let’s find out what people all over the world had to say about the global pandemic.

“I’ve been drug-free for 6 months now- started because I couldn’t get any, now I just don’t want any! Thank you covid.”

“I started the year a confused 18 year old that just needed at least one part of her life to make a bit of sense. I am ending the year a 19-year old that has begun life with Christ and is finding herself and taking steps to love herself more each.”

“A lot of time with nothing to do but improve me.

I’m in the best shape of my life, I’m cutting back on drinking, I’m sleeping better, I’m running my first D&D campaign (remotely) and having a blast doing it, I started reading recreationally again, I’m learning how to cook all sorts of things I never tried before… Overall, things are pretty good, considering.”

“2020 was and still is more instructive than any previous year of my life.

I learned a lot. I lost a lot. I won a lot.”

~~Michaela Beck

“2020 was AMAZING!! I finally tried making a film on my own which was once a dream.

I wrote, acted, shot, and edited the below films all on my own. Everything at my home. Nowhere else.

I was only writing stories all this time and I wished to make a movie. I have finally taken the step now!! And it feels great.

I am also doing well at my job. Parallelly I joined an M.Tech course in data science (BITS Pilani’s WILP)

And also I got married to the love of my life. We had been in a relationship for 7years!! This year has been great to me…so far 😉

Of course, this year has also f***ed me over. But let me share the positive things alone.”

“I found and recovered friendships with people that genuinely love me. I started two brands that keep growing daily, I have a salary paying job, I am joyful and the Lord is my strength.”

“Got my internship(nursing) this year which seemed impossible due to covid.

I learned fashion design (beginners class) and I’m happy I did because I love it, I’m so excited about the dresses I made already.

I’m grateful for life and what adulthood has taught me: Responsibility”

“I got a business, I’m making some money. I found myself, I became more ambitious, I learned and got my eyes open to a lot of things. I became closer to God too.”

“After two years of loneliness, I met the most wonderful woman that made me forget the emptiness of yesteryears. I slipped a ring on her and she said yes. 2020 saw her as my fiance, 2021 will know her as my wife.”

“Started the year on a high momentum, had few stops cos of covid then God came through despite the economic situation I made my first 7 digits even as a Corp member. Lost a few close friends but God has been fateful, I’m grateful for his faithfulness.”

“I was about to say I wasn’t productive this year but thinking about it, despite the madness, I wrote a full-length YA play, Middle-Grade Graphic Novel, a draft of an MG novel, a rewrite of my YA novel, and several picture books and began the illustration journey. Onward. #kidlit”

“For me, 2020 was an enjoyable year.

After several months I came back home and stayed with my family for a long time.

I learned household work and making new dishes.

Understanding of each other in the family has developed.

I am conscious of my physical and mental health and also the concept of quantity and quality food.

We celebrated each other’s birthday at home and enjoyed ourselves a lot.

Family relationships have become more active.

We have learned how to be positively minded in this situation.

After a long time, I started reading storybooks.

Every day we are feeling that this year is the last opportunity where we have stayed and enjoyed ourselves together for a long time.

I’m grateful for keeping us happy every day.”

“My friends and I went out to celebrate on 13 March as my birthday was on the next day and that was the day Delhi’s educational institutions were being shut down because of the coronavirus outbreak. We had no idea that after that day, we would have no idea when we would meet next.

I went home on the 14th and I have been home since. I got a desk job that I do from home. I always thought I would have a field job.

My 14-year-old brother has barely stepped out of the house since March. My father has had two operations since March. He had kidney stones.

My maternal grandfather passed away in April and one of my cousins was murdered in May — I could not attend any of these funerals because of the pandemic. It was so so heartbreaking. It was not just about their deaths but also that there has been no closure of sorts. I took my first steps when my maternal grandfather was playing with me. When he breathed his last, I was not there.

In October, my entire family of six: me, my parents, my brother, and my grandparents, tested coronavirus positive. My father, grandparents, and I were hospitalized and my mother and brother were in home isolation. My father was on oxygen support for one week and had lung damage.

We have all been discharged after being tested negative now. My grandparents and I were discharged on 29 October, my father on 1 November, and my mother and brother (in-home isolation) were tested negative on 5 November.

We now sit and sleep in our house with as much distance we can have between us and we don’t hug or touch each other even though we all have been negative for some time — my grandparents and I have been negative for two weeks, my father for 12 days, and my mother and brother for one week.

If our worst nightmares could all come together at one place and then merge into one another, I guess that would be 2020 — the year I had so many hopes for. Why? This was the year when I was to graduate from one of the most prestigious journalism schools in the country and start my career. Guess what? I have not a farewell or any closure at all. I could not be there for my family when my maternal grandfather and cousin became one with the elements. I went through hell during our coronavirus phase.

I am still recovering from the after-effects and every new day is a blessing.”

“Never thought a camera-shy person like me would be making videos. However, it’s satisfactory, I feel good about it and can express my emotions better.”

“Before 2020 I would always daydream about having a life where I’m fearlessly fighting something. Just…something. It had to be just something. But a fearless fight had to be the essence.

Well, I’m living the dream. This is what 2020 has been for me. I am living the dream.

And I feel so sorry for the losers who think they are suppressing me. Every time they’ve burned me, I’ve risen from the ashes.”

~~Ishita Prasad

“It was a great year. I created a quora space with nearly 15k followers and I self-published two books. I got Instacart, Netflix, Amazon prime, and caught up on all the movies I haven’t seen. I got covid but recovered. I saw old friends that I haven’t seen for a while. My son got engaged and got promoted to supervisor. I couldn’t have had a better year.”

~~Janet Ilacqua

“Now you ask me what is the best thing about 2020. After all this heartache I carry daily I see beauty when I look out my balcony windows. The sunrise and sunsets are incredible and I am blessed to see them each day. One of the best things I love. I get to spend time with people I like. My daughter in law is one of them. Shopping trips and Tanning. She is a wonderful person with a great smile and a positive attitude about life. (And she also has family members who are battling cancer) I get to spend time with my grandchildren whom I love very much.

So the best thing about 2020 is being with family and friends that you love. One day soon it will all be taken away so appreciate everything and everyone every day.

“The same thing with my husband, he was traveling every week Monday through Thursday. Since Covid, he has seen more of our kids than he ever had in the past. He didn’t have a bad relationship with them before but I can tell they are closer now. My husband being around every day is positive for our family.”

“I lost my job AND caught Covid 3 weeks apart but since then I’ve lost 20 pounds and I had time to study for and pass three different tests for new state-level board certifications that I’ll hopefully be able to spin into a new career soon.”

“Bought a house with record-low mortgage interest rates, paid off a couple of my student loans sooner than expected thanks to the emergency forbearance, and started dating an incredible girl. I sort of feel bad about how well things have been going for me while so many other people are losing everything.

We met back in March at a Bernie rally before the lockdown started. We chatted briefly, but I chickened out and didn’t ask for her number. Threw a Hail Mary and sent her a Facebook message later that night. She never goes on Facebook so she didn’t see it until mid-July, but she responded, we started chatting, exchanged numbers, then I eventually asked her out.”

“It forced my company to do what I’ve been pushing for years: work remotely 100%. I haven’t had to take any sick time for panic attacks that I had frequently in the office and have saved up enough Paid Time Off that I can actually take a mini-vacation next week and still have plenty in case something happens.”

~~UnluckyWerewolf

“My work can be 100% remote but my company just can’t understand that. Fortunately, with COVID I think I’ve proven it can be done and done successfully.”

“I started going on long walks when the quarantine started just to keep my sanity. This translated into me deciding I may as well change my diet and as a result, I’ve lost over 40 lbs and am within 25 lbs of being a healthy weight for my height.”

“I used to be a man who acted like a boy because I struggled with deep insecurity that made me too afraid to reach out into the world. I had NO confidence in myself to do anything, hardly.

Covid hit, hurt my family. My wife and kids began to suffer, bills got ruined, and we almost lost our way. However, I got a new job again after 3 years of unemployment, grew some confidence, found some decent work for pretty good pay starting, have been working on my issues, and am a whole new person now. A better father, a better husband, a better man, and now I am the primary source of income for my family.”
