AfroGist: 8 People Share Their Unforgettable Love Stories

We have all been in relationships or found love. While it worked out for some, for some others, it didn’t quite work out due to several reasons.

Between the relationships that worked out and those failed relationships, there’s always someone you can’t seem to forget!

In this episode of AfroGist, we collated some real-life unforgettable love stories. Here you go;

“Mine happened in High School. Don’t know exactly the right words to use but, despite all the guys I’ve dated till now, I’ve never found someone like him (it might be due to the innocence of the whole thing). It wasn’t that he was cute, or that he was nice, even though he was all that, but he made me feel beautiful. He made me feel safe, loved, and yes, even sexy. It was at a time in my life when I didn’t even want to look at myself in the mirror. He constantly told me he loved me, bought things for me (candies and the likes), and sang for me. Saying the love (he) was perfect, is me downplaying the whole thing. He made me understand what it meant to really have a best friend ☺️. Yet, we never even kissed…lol”

“So, I had this cute neighbor. He was in Ss2 and I was in Jss 2 (we were neighbors for over 4 years). We only saw each other on our balcony. Whenever I came outside for fresh air, he also came out. We always acted as if we didn’t notice each other. We never talked until a day we met at a store in the area. We spoke and he told me they were relocating to Lagos. The love story never started but I know it would have been unforgettable.”

“I fell in love with a thirty-year-old Muslim as an eighteen-year-old sophomore student in Uniben. I was head over heels for this guy. I got to experience things I had only read in novels and seen in movies; butterflies in my belly, my face turning red while talking to him. It was crazy, I won’t lie. Baba even had a nickname for me. He called me Gummiebear. I couldn’t sleep if he hadn’t texted me goodnight. My morning was not a good one until he told me good morning. If I hit my leg on a stone, he knew about it. He literally became my obsession.

There was nothing I wouldn’t do for this guy. One time, I legit made arrangements to travel to Ibadan from school to spend a romantic weekend with him when my parents still followed me to the bus park to board the bus I traveled to school in😂💔. I was so scared but my love for the guy kept pushing me. I thought to myself, “what if I had an accident on the way and died, or I get there and he rapes me or even worse, kills me to use for rituals?” But like a fool in love, I was willing to take the risk. Thank God he later canceled sha because like the usual Nigerian catchphrase, “last last it will end in tears”, it eventually ended in tears for me😢💔.”

“I fell in love with this guy online. I was seventeen at that time. When we met one year later, I became even more in love with him. It was that kind of Mumu love. The kind where the other party does nothing to deserve it. Because of my many reservations, we did not date thankfully. Five years and counting, I still love the fellow but discovered early this year that he just wants to sleep with me. We don’t talk much anymore.”

“I don’t have one 😭😭😭”

“During the summer holiday, we traveled to my uncle’s house at Abuja for two weeks. It was an estate and there were so many young people. I saw Sam and it was love at first sight. Unfortunately, I was fetching water and was looking rough. I later found out that he was a new friend to my elder brother. I had two weeks to enjoy myself so I went to their house daily, claiming to watch Everybody Hates Chris. On the last day, I told him I was leaving. They were all shocked. So, by 8:00 pm, Sam called me to come to the stairways. I hurriedly went out only to see him with a note. He hugged me and we had our first kiss.”

“Unforgettable story… I have such nice stories with all the girls I have dated. All my exes were all special and it’s so sad that I am single now.

I am searching for love. Maybe the next relationship will be the most unforgettable story.”

Peter (M)

“There was this guy, we’ll call him Tee. We never dated but I’ve not been able to forget him. He liked me a lot, took care of me, and made me feel wanted and safe. But then his values and the things he did made me realize that he was bad for me & he was already making me make some compromises I promised never to make. When I realized I was even willing to make some more dangerous ones, I ran away. It was so hard to let go of him but I had to. Still can’t forget him though.”
