National SuperHeroes Day 2020: SuperHeroes Without Capes

Yippee! It is National Superheroes day again! Every year, on the 28th day of April we get to celebrate those superheroes who inspired us when we were kids and still inspire us now. This day is always an exciting one for everyone as we all get to dress in our super heroes costume and reflect on what it means to be a hero.

This year is however special because the Covid-19 pandemic has shown us that some superheroes don’t wear capes. Our health care workers who are working very hard to save lives. The lady on the street who chooses to help her neighbours. Well meaning persons who contribute their time and resources to make sure others are happy and alive. Grocery store owners, food service workers and other people carrying out essential services.

You are a superhero if you have ever gone out of your way to help someone in need, stood up for justice, been a great mom, dad, sibling and role model to little kids. We want to tell you that we see what you’re doing and we love you so much. Keep being super!

Why People Love Watching SuperHeroes

The superhero genre of movies is becoming increasingly popular among people of all ages and climes. Why is that? Everyone wants to watch the supernatural. It is a basic human need/curiosity to witness things beyond the normal.

  • Superheroes Inspire

Watching superheroes rise from being semi-ordinary or in some cases ordinary humans to being mega powerful, strikes a cord within us. We sit down and something in us tells us we can do that also. This conviction is the greatest inspiration to do better, to not be ordinary.

  • Superheroes Teach Moral Lessons

SuperHero movies most at times teach moral lessons. It teaches us to be kind to our neighbors, it teaches us how to be selfless and intentional in our ways. Even supervillains sometimes use their powers for the greater good.

  • Superheroes Entertain Us

Superhero movies can never go wrong. They are emotional and action filled at the same time. They could make your blood race and make you cry without warning. I don’t think there’s anyone who will get bored, watching superhero movies because the entertainment is on another level.

My Favorite Female SuperHeroes

Cat Woman

The Cat Woman character was played by Selina Kyle. I think I fell in love with her when I watched the movie when I was eight years old, but then snippets of the movie kept haunting my feeble mind(lol) and I just had to find it and watch it again. The cat woman story thrills me all the time because she’s such a natural at being different. Her transformation from being a weird badly dressed woman to the hot as hell cat woman is inspiring!

Her escape from certain death after drowning and her prison break are scenes I can never forget. Cat woman destroys her enemies and goes back into the world, ready to save people for fun!

Supergirl

Teenager Kara Zor-el was rocketed to Earth from the dying planet Krypton. Faced with an entire world completely unrecognizable from the one she grew up in, she’s the ultimate new girl in school—with a planet-splitting right hook. A lonely girl with astounding might, she struggles to find her identity in her new reluctant home.

As the most powerful teenager on the planet, the Girl of Steel possesses all of Superman’s powers—from superhuman strength, speed, and invulnerability all the way down to his flight and enhanced senses. Still learning to control her awesome powers and lacking her cousin’s self-restraint, she may even be more dangerous than the Man of Steel. Disconnected from a world she’s still struggling to comprehend, she’ll find non-stop action and violence from her first minute on this planet.

Wonder Woman

Wonder woman grew up as a sheltered girl in the land of the Amazon. She was strong and wanted to use her powers but her mother warned against it(for good reasons). When an American pilot Chris Pine is shipwrecked, Wonder woman rushes to save him. She is amazed at the creature, because she had never seen a man before and she is drawn to him (oh I love romance).

When she is told of the danger in the outside world, Wonder woman decides to leave her comfort zone and save the world. Her battle with Ares is one of fierceness and honor. She triumphs and becomes the god she was born to be.

Elektra

Although this movie wasn’t a huge success, I totally enjoyed it. It was the first female superhero movie I ever watched and my little mind was thrilled at both Jennifer’s beauty and her red dress. Her romance with Mark and her love for Abby despite being a deadly assassin was just so cute.

Xena

Xena, the warrior princess is a delicious movie I would totally go back and watch. Set in medieval times, Xena leaves her palace for an adventure together with Gabrielle, a small town girl who eventually becomes her best friend. I’m really getting some Merlin and Authur vibes from this movie right now.

While watching, I always looked forward to when Xena would squeal out her peculiar ululaton and throw what I just found out is a chakram.

How To Celebrate National Superheroe Day

  • Appreciate The Superheroes In Your Life

My mom is my superhero, I love her and I think she is the bestest thing. The health workers working tirelessly to make sure we are all okay are my superheroes. Who is your superhero? Appreciate them. Send them a text message. Send them a card. Treat them to dinner or lunch. Post something about them. If they’re fictional, posting a picture about them and how much you enjoyed watching the movie.

  • Be A Superhero

You might ask me how? How can I be a superhero when I can’t fly? Being a superhero is not hard at all. Kindness is the greatest superpower of all. Perks are,

  • It is free.
  • You don’t have to be injected with anything(for those who hate needles).
  • You don’t need to witness bloodshed.

All you have to do is reach out a helping hand to those who need it, say a kind word or compliment someone and above all, be kind to yourself.

Don’t forget to share your favorite superheroes and why in the comment session. Happy National SuperHeroes Day!! We Love You!!!
