Women’s March 2020: How Loud Are Women Saying Time Is Up!?

women's march

We are women, and we will not be silenced! Everywhere around the world, women are being oppressed, marginalized and controlled. I know it might be hard for some people to come to terms with, but someone has to hear this; Women are HUMAN. We eat, breathe and have feelings just like every other person.

There is nothing in our DNA that makes us less than the next person. We are not stupid or dumb “bitches”. We have a mind of our own, plans for the future, dreams.

Today, January 20th marked the fourth worldwide march for women’s rights. Come to think of it, is the world not tired of hearing the cry of women? Every time they try to bury us, but they forget that we are seeds. For centuries, women have marched for freedom yet it seems no one has been listening.

In Africa, women as seen as the custodians of culture and their protests are highly respected. Yet women are continually forced to be silent in the face of all the difficulties that are pushed in our way.

In the year 2017, the Women’s March began from the action of a few powerful women whose voices led millions of women into protest. The protest was against Trump’s government attitude and comments towards women and it was peaceful.

Despite the weather in Washington, women turned up in their numbers to protest in front of the White House. The Women’s March 2020 had even more fervor as there seemed to be a lot more to fight for. Women’s equal pay, reproductive rights and immigrant rights.

Women March For Equal Pay

It is so unfair and demoralizing to know that a woman would do the same work a man does and get paid less. What is the rationale behind such a thing? We know that it is a “man’s world” and men are born entitled but do you really have to take from “Miranda” to please Paul?

So many women around the world work their ass off and end up earning less just because they are women. A lot of these women are single mothers. How do they take care of their children when you continually make sure they can’t?

There are many ways to tell someone they are worthLESS and this is one of those ways. How is it possible that female nurses receive less pay than male nurses working the same jobs? Why do such things still happen in a world that boasts continually about its growing civilization?

What use is being “civilized” when you cannot respect the rights of the next person? Oh, I forgot. You don’t actually believe women are human. What are we then? Robots? Or is that too good for us too? It makes me sick to see displays of oppression and marginalization of women because I know how much sacrifice women make daily to ensure their families, and in extension, the society is running smoothly.

That is why the feminist movement should be supported by any well-meaning person. Feminism advocates the rights of women to be respected and treated as individuals. The right of a woman to make decisions that affect her life.

Women’s Right To Decisions

Dear Misogynist,

Women are neither chickens nor dogs. They are thinking beings who know what they want for themselves. It might come as a surprise to you but we actually sit down and plan our lives. We make decisions and we try to implement them in our daily lives. Could you please let us be? We see you, we know you and we don’t like you. We are women, we were not born to live our lives always under the umbrella of a man.

We have a right to choose, we have a right to say NO and not be seen as obstinate. We have a right to say YES without it being taken as a joke. We are smart. We are driven. Our children and our families push us to do great things. Could you please just let us be? Not all of us enjoy being stay-at-home moms. It is alright for us to be the centre of attention. We do not have to conform to your standards of beauty.

We have the right to love who we want to love, marry who we want to marry. We have right to our ovaries! We know how many kids we want to have and when. You really don’t need to tell us or make us. We are perfectly comfortable in our own skin. We do not, I repeat, we do not need you to be complete.

We are too much already, could you try not to make us feel less everyday? Because if you do, if you keep pushing us to the wall then you should expect us to rise. We are women, we are bold enough to rise up in adversity.

Violence Against Women

A slap, a shove, emotional blackmail; all these violence are what women suffer daily around the world. Women are victims of domestic violence from their spouses, and the painful part is their inability to speak up about their suffering because of their lack of trust for the authorities and the society’s intention towards them.

There is this belief that women were born to carry a special (very heavy) cross all their lives. Do you subscribe to that belief too? Change your mind!

No woman was born to be a punching bag or a rag to clean all the dirt in your mouth. No woman is too ugly to be loved or too beautiful to be allowed to reach her full potential. Women are powerhouses that, despite the so-called civilization of the world, still remain untapped.

Women are sexually assaulted every day and made to watch as their abuser walks free. Some were assaulted by older males that they trusted when they were very young. They all live with the scars of their experience and the shame of knowing that people will judge them if only they found out. Why? The only way to make the world a better place is by doing good deeds.

Do you know that taking away a woman’s right to her body is a kind of violence? It leaves a woman weak, defenseless and open to assault. A woman should be able to take birth control or seek an abortion if she so desires. Women who are sexually assaulted should be given justice and should be made to know that being brave is a thing of pride.

Women should also be allowed to make the choice of who to marry and how many children they want to have any effort to infringe on those rights in violence.

Conclusion

Women might lack a little bit of muscle but we more than make up for it. In the daily fight for freedom there should be no relenting. When we see our “enemies” as wide animals waiting to devour us at the first sign of weakness, we will never relent. We will keep fighting for our fights as humans. We are women, we will not be silent!

In the spirit of true feminism, I have to say to those who Marched for Life today, men and women alike, thank you! the world needs more of you!!
