14 Crazy Ways To Spend Valentine’s Day Alone If You’re Single
You’re only just single, and it’s not a crime
I’m sorry to say, but it’s the year 2024, and Mr. February has once again infected all of us with his unrepentant, self absorbed, love-infested theatrics. And what this means for everyone whether in a relationship or not, absorbed in self love, or trapped in an unreciprocated love, is the momentary reminder to brace up against the typical drama that comes with valentine’s day.
February (especially 14th) in much more simpler terms, means everyone you know might be seen walking about infected by a timely unseen love bug. It is the month of a love pandemic! Often characterized with stray symptoms of the infected being inundated with red hearts and white flowers, nearly-impressive script lines, and trumpets serenades of unending declarations of everlasting love, on display everywhere.
Special thanks to the influx of excitement on the media, every ad on our favorite social media platforms are presently either on a 14% or more discount off gift items and it looks like everyone is pledging their undying allegiance to this thing called love.
The upside to this? Well, there are boxes of chocolates and giggling girls, love tips and hints everywhere. However my position on things still remains:
Ok honestly, I don’t hate Valentine’s Day like this 15 people who think that valentine’s day should be cancelled, but here’s where I’m going with my rant.
Whether single or not, you might want to agree with me that Valentine’s Day is an annoying and unneeded commercial celebration for some people. However, for those who are single and unhappy about it, it can be a particularly unbearable day in the events of their yearly calendars, and for those who are still reeling from the loss of a relationship like these people who have had their fair share of great and sore valentine experiences
I know that it can be like pouring alcohol into a fresh wound. However, It doesn’t have to be that way, and I’m here to remind you that valentine’s day is not meant to be a mourning day—especially for singles.
In fact, Valentine’s Day can be a terrific excuse to do something fun alone, whether it’s a romantic dinner or some self-care. You can mark a holiday that honours love by enjoying self-love instead if you don’t have a significant other to cuddle up next to. Just stop sulking already and think about it. This is pure wisdom! You can’t get it in the market for free.
Even while February 14 may seem like a day reserved for couples, there are several reasons why spending Valentine’s Day alone is beneficial. For starters, you may celebrate the holiday anyway you choose, which means you won’t have to stress about finding the perfect present or spending a fortune on the ideal date. Instead, you can do whatever it is that makes you joyful, whether it’s learning a new skill or laughing at something.
So while there may be no “bae” or “boo” love to celebrate, self love, parent’s love, or best friend’s love, other forms of love are still permissible to be celebrated on Feb 14. Love is nothing but a broad mindset, and According to Dr. Kevin Gilliland, Psy.D., licensed clinical psychologist and the Executive Director of Innovation 360l, “A romantic partner is just one type of love, and it takes more than one type for us to grow into the fullness of who we are. The research tells us that a variety of loving, meaningful relationships are good for our mental and physical health. It’s part of our DNA.”
So being single is inevitably not the end of the world as we know it. If you’re single on valentine’s day, I’ve compiled a list of 8+ fun and uplifting activities to do.
