10 Nasty Comments Men Should Never Make About A Woman’s Body

This world is a harsh place. A lot of people need to brace up before they step out of their homes every morning because of what others would say about their looks and their choice of outfits. Lately, roasting and canceling (which are just offshoots of plain old bullying) have been normalized and people have fun at other people’s expense.

Not everyone has that thick skin you imagine they have, not everyone can withstand your “jokes” without succumbing to depression and self-loathing. Today we will be talking about some nasty things that men say (to women) as though they are normal. We all have been roasted at least once in our lives and we came out whole or worse, wounded. This is however not an excuse to say bad things about someone else’s body.

In no way are women fragile creatures because they get upset when you talk bad about their bodies. No one likes to be body shamed. Yet women are made to feel a deeper connection between their inner self and their bodies. This is because society expects a woman to be beautiful or curvy just like it expects a man to be brawny or tall.

These are standards that all women are aware of and daily try the best they can to attain. The average woman is so conscious of the slightest change in her body, so you will just be making things worse if you say stuff like what I’ll be listing out in this article!

You Look Stressed

We know when we are stressed. We know how we look when we are stressed. When you say this, we will just interpret it as “you look awful”. This comment could throw a completely happy day off-course and make us start feeling stressed even if we were doing well before.

What makes it even nastier is the fact that people tell us this mostly when we have no makeup on, which just makes us feel like we should have makeup on all the time (which isn’t possible). If you have been telling your woman this, out of concern, just stop. Simply ask her how she is and find out if she is stressed or not.

You Have Lost So Much Weight

If a woman has lost weight, it’s usually one of these three cases, she wants to, she’s been stressed, she’s sick. None of these cases invite your comment. Telling her she’s lost weight is just going to make her feel awful.

What if she’s Ill and losing weight means her health is deteriorating? What If she puts on the weight next week, and then with extra? She’s going to pass by you and feel anxious because you might just say “Oh, you’re fat again”.

The only time you’re allowed to tell a woman that she has lost weight is when she had previously told you she was trying to lose weight. In that case, she’ll be very happy to hear that. If not? Please don’t.

You Look Fat

There is no nice way to say this. Why? Why would you say something so awful? She’s never going to want to look fat. It might be her potbelly making her look round and of course, she is very insecure about that. Telling her she looks fat would just make her feel really bad and she might make huge and scary decisions on a whim. Like, decide to go do surgery or stop eating entirely.

If she looks fat, there’s a 90% chance that she already knows. Telling her the same is like rubbing chilli on an open sore. It hurts. A better way to approach the issue is by asking simply: have you had time for yourself lately? Chances are she will open up to you about her weight gain and what’s actually causing it.

You Would Look Better If…

OMG, they say this a lot. Dear men! It is all nice and cool for you to want your lady to look better and all that but news flash, we have already been created. There is no going back now.

You would look better if your nose was straight. Nope

You would look better if you had rounder hips. Bloody hell no.

You would look better if your face wasn’t so flat. Have you looked in the mirror? No!

You would look… Shut Up.

There’s no better way to say this. Every woman is beautiful and unique, deserving of a man who adores her. If you can’t do that, step aside.

You Looked Better Last Year

Comparison is a bitch. We just don’t hate being compared with other women, we hate being compared with our past selves. That’s just mean. You don’t know what happened in the last year, we might have lost our jobs, lost loved ones, added/lost weight, been getting older, anything or nothing could have happened.

It doesn’t matter. Telling us that we looked better last year is not a reasonable thing to say and would never produce a good reaction from/in us. What makes you guys think that’s a good thing to say anyway? I really want to know. Yay curiosity. Stop. Never say that again.

You Look Pregnant

This is almost the same with “you look fat” but on a higher level. When you tell a woman this, you make her reassess her tummy situation. If she’s pregnant, she will tell you. If she doesn’t tell you, then she doesn’t want to.

When men tell women this, it is usually because our bellies are on the big side and most men expect that we will just laugh over it and move on. Hey, we are not your guys. We feel things differently. It doesn’t matter if you get a laugh. That I laughed doesn’t mean I did not feel bad or insulted by your comment. So please, try not to say stuff like this to us again.

What about those that make it a point to touch our bellies instead? A non-verbal way of saying “I see you have a belly”. That is disgusting and inappropriate. I know I have a cute tummy but I never invited you to touch it.

You Look Better/Worse With or W/O Makeup

Make up means different things to different women. Some women wear makeup because they look better, others wear makeup because it gives them confidence while a few wear it like an armor. You might be trying to compliment her when you say ” you look better without makeup” but she might not take it that way. Lots of women have had to dump their “armor” because people told them countless times that they look better without makeup.

While it is great to grow independent from things we use as crutches, the process is a very painful one and some of us never really get there. Funny, but it is all a matter of preference. Some men like when a woman wears makeup but others do not for reasons like its beauty enhancement quality.

The only nice way to say this is to simply compliment her beauty. Saying Wow, You look beautiful even when she’s not on makeup will do wonders to her confidence.

That Dress Doesn’t Suit You

Some men say this to hurt a woman’s ego. Especially if they think she’s overweight, too skinny, or not curvy enough. Women should be allowed to slay any dress they feel like slaying. It is way better to say: “are you wearing that? I was hoping you’d wear the white/brown/blue dress. But this is okay

When you say this instead, you make her think maybe I should go wear the blue dress if he likes it so much rather than the heartbreaking he hates how I look.

You Look So Serious

When men use this comment, they are most likely going to say “I was scared to talk to you” immediately after. Really? Women can be serious sometimes. We aren’t clowns, so don’t expect us to smile all the time. Some of us are stern and warm at the same time.

You look so serious is not a compliment please, it is an annoying and unwanted comment on a woman’s appearance. Say instead, “You looked aristocratic sitting there with so much dignity“. Too cheesy for you? Say nothing.

You look weird

Oh well, you look weird too.

Men really have to learn to be more tactful around women. Your mouth has been killing more women than diabetes every year and you guys don’t know. You just open your mouth and whatever is in your head jumps out and boom, you’ve hurt someone. Imagine getting dressed for a date, ensuring you’re looking nice and when your date meets you at the door he says “You look weird

Oh, Earth! Open up and swallow me!

Your woman is going to be second-guessing everything until she’s brave enough to let go. Either that or she makes you apologize and we all know that women are like the internet – we never forget. She’s going to be questioning your love for her, Your commitment to her, the reason why you’re still with her, if she’s good enough if you’ve met someone else, e.t.c.

So if you see your woman looking thoughtful after you say something like this, you better apologize, promise never to say it again, and mean it!

In conclusion, treating women right includes watching what you say to them, especially if the subject is their bodies. I’m not saying you should start telling us lies. I’m just saying BE KIND. It costs nothing. Ladies, anything else?
