Why #ArrestBuhari Is Trending On Twitter And Other Highlights
This week has not been a great one for Nigerians. Despite the therapeutic effects of watching BBNaija, many Nigerians have been forced to sink back into the cesspool of sadness that permeates the air an average Nigerian breathes. To crown off all the highlights for the week, unknown gunmen on Thursday night killed seven persons in Southern Kaduna.
This tragedy has sparked off the online protest under the hashtag #Arrestbuhari. It is important to note that although military defense has been deployed in the area, these killings continue. South Kaduna women this week embarked on a nude protest after sixteen people were killed in an attack by unknown gunmen.
Traditionally, when women protest in the nude, restitution must be done because their action can attract heavy curses on the source of their grievance. It is saddening to see that killings in Southern Kaduna which is predominantly occupied by Christians continue to escalate.

On the #Arrestbuhari hashtag, notable figures online and offline have spoken on it. This hashtag which reached number one on the Nigerian trend list in just an hour is laced with the pain and anger of the Nigerian people against their government. President Buhari is getting dragged for a lot of things.
Firstly, the ongoing menace of Boko Haram. We can all recall that in December 2016, President Buhari received that captured flag of the Boko Haram terrorists from Gen. Tukur Buratia after over one thousand Boko Haram Terrorists were captured in a well executed raid.

It has been four years, and in this time Nigeria has recorded thousands of deaths of innocent citizens and soldiers while thousands of repentant Boko Haram terrorists have been released into the country. In these four years of suffering, Nigerians have received nonstop promises from their government.
This lends some context to the #Arrestbuhari hashtag. I believe these tweets from the Imam of Peace and others would also help understand the depth of the matter at hand.
Reno Omokri tweeted “For the murderous activity of herdsmen, bandits and other militias, without his government doing anything really tangible to put an end to these killings of innocent Nigerians, but rather making excuses for them, I fully support #ArrestBuhari”
General @MBuhari refused to send an evacuation plane to rescue Nigerians from South Africa during the xenophobic attacks, yet, he sent a plane to Niger to repatriate ‘repentant my Boko Haram members to Nigeria in style. Because of this, I fully support #ArrestBuhari”
Imam of Peace tweeted “Buhari freeing thousands of Boko Haram terrorists because they “repented” is treason. They have killed thousands since then, and he is responsible. #ArrestBuhari”

NIPOST LEVIES
Nigerians took to Twitter in the evening yesterday, protesting the imposition of levies on logistic companies by NIPOST. It was said that during the day, police arrested delivery riders because they had not paid these levies.
According to NIPOST, the new regulation categorised logistics companies into international, regional, state, municipal or intra-city, and SME operators.
International operators are to pay ₦20 million as a license fee, national ₦10 million and regional operators ₦5 million. State, municipal and special SME operators are to pay ₦2 million, ₦1 million and ₦250,000 respectively. Each operator, irrespective of the category, will pay 40% of the license fee as renewal fee annually.
“The new regulations that are a great improvement on the old one, are aimed to rejig the logistic and courier ecosystem of the economy and significantly improve efficiency, and make courier and logistic operation more effective, in line with President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration policy on ease of doing business,” said NIPOST’s General Manager, Corporate Communications, Franklin Alao.

On the issue, the minister for Communications and Digital Economy tweeted “Pls @NipostNgn, our attention has been drawn to an increase of licence fee, which was not part of the regulation I earlier APPROVED for you. Your Chair and PMG were YESTERDAY contacted to put the implementation on hold and send a report to our ministry by Monday. Best wishes!” Nigerians have their fingers crossed.
