The End of The Critical Race Theory

The Critical Race Theory (CRT) can simply be defined as a construct that uses critical theory to explain social culture as it pertains to the sharing of power. Critical Theory states that societal problems are created more by social constructs than by individuals. When applied to the issue of racism, this theory tells us that race brings power and social constructs give to or take power from a particular race. For example, how White supremacy gives a white person privilege over a black person just because of the colour of his skin.

It also adduces that the law aids or even feeds this division and imbalance. The CRT tenets posit that it is possible to change the connection between the law and racial superiority, and with that, bring an end to racial oppression and marginalization of people of color.

It is an activist movement designed to question the racial issues which have become the norm of the American society.

According to many Americans however, CRT has become more “violent” of late, promoting racism instead of ending it. It has been criticized by scholars and citizens who claim it lacks objectivity and legal reasoning.

On Tuesday September 1st, Christopher Rufo on Fox News said, “Conservatives need to wake up to see that this is an existential threat to the United States and the bureaucracy even under the Trump administration. It is now being weaponized against core traditional American values and I’d like to make it explicit, the President or the White House has power to immediately issue an executive order abolishing Critical Race Theory training from the federal government.

I call on the President to stamp out this destructive, divisive, psuedo-scientific ideology at its root and I think that it is something that he has denounced like the BLM theatrics in places like Portland but it is time to take action and destroy it within his administration.

What we are seeing is that the institutions of the federal government have really abandoned the core American principles of equality under the law and they are now adapting this radical left ideology of judging people based on their group identity.”

On Friday, September 4th, the President of the United States cut off all funding for CRT training across the country.

Today, President Donald Trump tweeted, “Trump Orders Purge of ‘Critical Race Theory’ from Federal Agencies via @BreitbartNews. This is a sickness that cannot be allowed to continue. Please report any sightings so we can quickly extinguish!”

A Memorandum was released by the Office of the President yesterday. It said, “It has come to the President’s attention that executive branch agencies have spent millions of taxpayer’s dollars to date ‘training’ government workers to believe divisive, anti-American propaganda.”

For example, according to press reports, employees across the executive branch have been required to attend ‘trainings’ where they are told that “virtually all white people contribute to racism” or where they are required to say that they “benefit from rascism.”

Most Americans reacted positively to the news. However, there was mixed reaction from people of colour. Here are some tweets:

@TariqNasheed tweeted, “A lot of the white supremacists on the right ( and many on the left too) don’t like “Critical Race Theory” because systematic white supremacy is not about logic it’s about domination. And if you discuss it from a logical framework, you can point out how irrational it is.”

Cheong tweeted, “Trump is banning Critical Race Theory in the federal government. No more of this garbage, especially not on taxpayer dollars.”

@robbystarbuck tweeted, “The move by @realDonaldTrump to wipe out the forced teaching of critical race theory at the federal level is huge. Critical race theory is destructive and actively creates racists. Even bigger would be forcing this hateful ideology out of our schools. Hopefully that’s next!”

@DrKarylnB tweeted “Seriously this is so incredibly important. As an I/O psychologist, I’ve seen the results of these trainings. Not only are they harmful to the individual, but they are also incredibly harmful to team collaboration and cohesion. Just say no to critical race theory. It does not work.”

Vanderpool tweeted, “Critical Race Theory examines society/culture as it relates to race, law, and power to attempt to understand how victims of systemic racism are affected and are able to represent themselves to counter prejudice.

It was not a fluke that he just used “extinguish.”

@JamilSmith tweeted: “Critical race theory helps contextualize how systemic racism affects us. Trump and his party perpetuate systemic racism, but pretend that it doesn’t exist. Of course he wants “sightings” of CRT reported. This is white supremacy trying to cover its tracks.”
