The Carpenter’s Son Movie, A Blasphemy or Not?
The Carpenter’s Son Movie: Is It a Blasphemy or Just a Story?
The Carpenter’s Son is an upcoming French-American horror film written and directed by Lofty Nathan, and distributed by Magnolia Pictures in the United States. According to Sinthya Banik, “The Carpenter’s Son trailer sees Nicolas Cage lead a dark biblical horror reimagining,” inspired by the Infancy Gospel of Thomas.
The film shows Nicolas Cage as a haunted Joseph figure in a biblical horror story that is sure to spark controversy. Unlike the usual Jesus movies, this version takes a much darker path. Based on Matthew 13:55, The Carpenter’s Son explores a chilling reimagining of Jesus that many viewers may find unsettling.
Why The Carpenter’s Son Is So Controversial
The Carpenter’s Son was released on August 27th, 2025, starring Nicolas Cage as Joseph, Noah Jupe as Jesus (the boy), and FKA Twigs as Mary. The thriller begins with a family hiding in Roman Egypt. The boy, later revealed as Jesus, is influenced by a mysterious child, leading him to rebel against his guardian, the carpenter. His rebellion awakens hidden powers and a destiny beyond his understanding. As he unleashes his abilities, the family faces both natural and divine horrors.
The movie aims to portray an alternate and imaginative childhood of Jesus Christ, exploring what could have happened if “the boy” had turned away from faith and ministry. In the trailer, we see Joseph, played by Nicolas Cage, filled with sorrow, Mary, played by FKA Twigs, crying with a bald head, and the boy discovering his powers while rebelling against his path.

Exploring the Backlash Behind the Upcoming Horror Release
Unsurprisingly, a lot of controversies have arisen with the trailer which was released. It has set the Christian believers into a rage over the fact that they claim it is a blasphemy against the Bible.
Many argue that it’s not a blasphemy, but a medium of entertainment which could be very exciting. Others that it’s only a sin within the Christian body and it has nothing to do with those outside the Christian body. Others still, it is a deeply religious topic and should be upheld and not paraded around as horror.
The movie is set to be released later this year and it’s estimated to be during the Fall. However, as the situation stands, it’s hard to say if the movie will actually be released since just a trailer is facing a huge backlash from the public.
Many believe the movie would be a complete hit or a terrible failure and is the most talked about topic right now. Some have chosen to sit down and watch how everything plays out.
Is The Carpenter’s Son Worth Watching?
Nevertheless, with different thoughts circulating, the movie has become even more controversial, making its release date highly anticipated. Many people are eager to watch it, whether to criticize or to praise.

Well, this has definitely given the movie the opportunity for promotions and advertisement without cost. Clearly, the production team has caught the attention of the world. And now, all eyes are on the lookout for the show, eagerly waiting for the release of The Carpenter’s Son.
