Nigerian Police Force Accused Of Photoshopping Suspects of Crime
The Nigerian Police force has been accused of posting photoshopped pictures of crime suspects with “recovered” weapons. Nigerians on Twitter NG have expressed disappointment in the act. To them, this is a new low they never imagined could happen.
The Nigerian police force (@PoliceNG) on Monday 1st December 2020 tweeted: #PhotoNews: Re-arrested inmates who escaped from lawful custody at Oko Correctional Centre, Benin City, Edo State during the ENDSARS protests. L-R: Peter Felix Osas, Onaruje Benjamin – convicted and was on death-row at the time of escape, Adebayo Opeyemi dismissed soldier and convicted for armed robbery, Alhaji Hudu Musa – convicted for receiving stolen property. The fifth suspect, Frank Odion Oloye, had already completed his jail term.”
The picture that followed, however, raised a lot of controversies.

Nigerians commented on the white shadows behind these “crime suspects”. They pointed out that there are only three white shadows on the wall and four men standing. The fourth man also seems to be standing away from the others as though someone dropped him in there and forgot to arrange him properly.
Nigerians, in their famous hilarious way, replied with comments like these:
@simply_lanre tweeted: Wait, is that their guardian angel or ghost at the back or what am I seeing?”
@Whichway_NIG tweeted: Our police now de arrest people with their spirit oo, this is a very good job and I’m sure they can’t escape this time since their spirit and soul is also in detention. Well done guys but next time employ a good photo/graphics editor to help perfect your lies, it’s too obvious.”
@Lekzicon tweeted: Good job, you arrested their souls this time, there’s no way they can escape. Looks like you’ve employed Sam & Dean Winchester”.
The second post was even more controversial. In it, two “criminal suspects” are standing before a table of “weapons”. Nigerians began to raise alarm as soon as it was posted.

They commented on a few things, such as the lack of a reflection of the woman’s body/head on the glass window behind her. The man seems to have his arms weirdly hiding under the table and the weapons look too blurry. The white film around the man’s neck and his body, close to the table. Someone pointed out that the weapons look a lot like those of the Nigerian Police Force. Some of the comments on the tweet are:
@maxajee tweeted: So NPF now takes pictures of innocent people and Photoshop them with weapons just to chase clout. This level of incompetence is second to none. Who did we offend in this country”
@Oluwayobiiii tweeted: Not the Nigerian police force using photoshop to frame innocent citizens
Nigeria will find new ways to embarrass you every day”
@TundeSmilez tweeted: Police posting photoshopped images in the year 2020. When they called you all the worst police in the world you were angry. Can you people see yourselves now?”
The Nigerian police force is yet to reply to any of these messages.
