Nigerian Idol Show, Seyi Shay and Mayowa: Unprofessionalism or Mediocrity?
The Nigerian Idol show which has been on hiatus for five years is back. The show features three judges, Seyi Shay, Obi Asika, and DJ Sose. The show premiered on the 14th of this month and has been running since then. Today, the streets of TwitterNG were vibrating with outrage. The Nigerian Idol show and musician Seyi Shay was the topic of discussion.
According to video evidence, Seyi Shay told the young contestant Mayowa Odueyungbo from Lekki, Nigeria these words “Your performance? Terrible. You are never going to make money being a singer”.
Nigerians were of the opinion that her words were too harsh and seemingly unprofessional. Clamoring for constructive criticism, they went on to diss Seyi Shay’s music career. This controversy entered the Nigerian Trends table and is currently sitting at number one and as Nigerians are not particularly subtle, their takes on the issue were crazy. Here are tweets:

Seyi Shay’s reaction to all the insults and criticism was to thank everyone for making her trend. The contestant who is @ayotorrus on Twitter affirmed that her words broke him emotionally and psychologically. Well-meaning Nigerians have encouraged him to look past the comments and go for his dreams.
