8 Inexpensive Ways to Celebrate Easter with Family and Friends
Easter might not be the most exciting holiday. I mean some of us don’t spend as much time or money celebrating it as we would Christmas, New Year’s or even Valentine’s Day. But that doesn’t mean it can’t be fun.
Here are eight inexpensive and easy-to-plan ways to celebrate Easter, perfect for you and your family or friends.
1. An Easter Picnic
A holiday isn’t a holiday without food (you can quote me on that 😉). So why not take some of that holiday feasting outside? It is currently spring in many places around the world and in others, the weather is a bit rainy but still favorable.
There are more than a couple free or inexpensive parks everywhere, perfect for a fun and picturesque Easter celebration. So all you need is a basket, a couple of coolers, a blanket and a whole lot of food for you and your family/friends.
2. Easter Game Party
Have fun and keep the family entertained with easy-to-play games. From board games to charades, you can even make one up from scratch. This is a great way to make Easter memories you’re unlikely to forget.
3. Visit a Charity
Easter is a period that embodies making sacrifices. Taking time out to do good will not only help others but allow you to tap into the feel-good endorphins that come with an act of kindness. According to scientific research, being kind boosts serotonin and dopamine, which are neurotransmitters in the brain that give you feelings of satisfaction and well-being, and cause the pleasure/reward centers in your brain to light up.
So if you really want to help others and feel good this Easter holiday, spend it giving back. Visit a charity near you and share food, old clothes and items or volunteer.
4. A Family Baking Session
There is something about baking with people that bonds you. Maybe it’s the act of teamwork or the magic in the promise of something sweet. But if you would really like to connect with family this Easter a family baking session is for you.
5. Tourist Excursion
When you’ve lived in a country all your life or at least for most of it, chances are you haven’t visited a lot of its most popular tourist destinations.
For instance, have you been to your national museum or the local art gallery, have you seen those historical monuments you read about in history class? If the answer is no then this Easter you’ve got some exploring to do.
If you live in Lagos, Nigeria here are a few great suggestions: Nike Art Gallery, the national museum, Lekki Art Market, Kalakuta museum, Jaekel House, and Lekki Conservation Center.
6. A Movie Night
When I say movie night I’m not just talking, turn on your tv and enjoy. I’m saying turn your home into a DIY cinema for the day. Hang up a white sheet, connect your laptop to a projector and serve some popcorn.
7. Plant Something
You can use this Easter to help out the planet. Use your backyard or get some soil in flower pots and plant together.
As they say, “A family that saves the world together, stays together…” or something like that.
8. A Family Photo Session for Easter
Remember the days when we would all get dressed up and go to a studio for a family picture? Good times, good times.
Technology has made things simpler and faster with smartphones but it’s taken away the family picture day. So for Easter, why don’t you bring it back? Get dressed in your Sunday best, put on some makeup or get a haircut and take a family picture. This time you don’t have to go to the studio or pay a fancy photographer, you can do it right at home with your phone.
If you pick an item on this list, you will have a satisfying Easter celebration with very little effort and money spent. Happy Easter!
