Davido Announces Release of His Fourth Studio Album ‘Timeless’
On Tuesday, March 21, 2023, Davido announced the release of his fourth studio album, Timeless on Instagram. The upcoming album is scheduled to be released on March 31, 2023, through Davido Music Worldwide, Sony Music Entertainment, and Columbia Records.
The Afrobeats superstar had previously released the album’s lead single “Champion Sound” with assistance from the South African rapper, Focalistic, on November 19, 2021.
The announcement was accompanied by an exhilarating trailer that comprised footage of his tours, behind-the-scenes clips, Davido seated behind an office desk, and him writing a note while reading it out loud in narration.
Davido employs the literary technique of allusion in his beautiful trailer as he alluded to the third chapter of the book of Ecclesiastes in his narration, saying:
“There is a time for everything, a time to grieve and a time to heal, a time to laugh and a time to dance. A time to speak, and a time for silence.”
He went further to appreciate his fans for their undying loyalty in the past 11 years of his career by saying, “I do all of this in my own time, grounded by your love which is TIMELESS.”
The Jowo singer told Rolling Stone magazine that the album was almost complete in June 2022.
The afrobeats veteran decided to collaborate with Spotify to curate a beautiful “Timeless Afro Playlist” which featured some Afrobeats tracks he considered timeless. The playlist features tracks from well-known artists such as Wizkid, Mr Eazi, and Tekno.
The Nigerian-American singer-songwriter expressed his profound gratitude to his fans on his Instagram post with the caption:
“Thank you to everyone out there for your love and support that has held me down. All the love and messages while I was away, the gifts sent, the concerts you all threw! I appreciate it all. Today, I want to remind you all that what is now Timeless, was once new. It’s time for new.”
Davido’s Timeless marks his first album since A Better Time, which was released in 2020. The previous album peaked at No. 4 on Billboard‘s World Albums chart and featured various international superstars such as Chris Brown, Nicki Minaj, Young Thug, Lil Baby, Nas, Tiwa Savage, and many more.
The Assurance singer was also featured on “Hayya Hayya (Better Together),” the lead single from the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 official soundtrack, alongside AISHA and Trinidad Cardona, which he performed at the world cup’s closing ceremony.
Davido’s latest song, Timeless, also marks his first musical release since the death of his 3-year-old son, Ifeanyi Adeleke, on October 31, 2022. The adorable boy had drowned in a pool at his father’s Lagos home. Much to the dismay of fans, friends, and family as he had always been well-loved by everyone, especially the singer’s fans.
Fans were visibly excited to see that their icon was back on his feet and resorted to their various social media handles to express their joy at the thought of the new release.
