What is The Biggest Challenge The Media Has Faced?
The biggest challenge the media has faced is that of an infringement on their rights to press freedom. This has been addressed over time and May 3rd annually commemorates the fight for this right. However, the biggest challenge the media is facing right now is FAKE NEWS. Yes, there is a large amount of fake news out there that isn’t easy to point out what the truth is. This is crumbling the media world. Such that even the truth can be fabricated and people are beginning to lose their trust in the media. The masses cannot tell when they are being presented with the truth or not and while we know that the media tries it’s possibly best to provide us with the right information, it is important to note that there should be rules and regulations, media bodies who should detect and eradicate fake news.
The vast impact fake news has had on society is very pronounced in this time of COVID-19. Come 4th May we intend to listen and see how the UNESCO Director-General and his guests address the issue of disinformation in this time of the coronavirus pandemic.

Many have died trying to give us the right information and it is pertinent that we help the media preserve their rights. It is their right to carry out journalism without fear or favor and that is what 2020 World Press Freedom Day commemorates. In all we should have the metonymic adage “the pen is mightier than the sword” at heart. Happy World Press Freedom Day!!!
