15 People Share Thoughts On Whether Valentine’s Day Be Cancelled/Celebrated

Valentine’s Day is upon us once again. While some are lamenting on the special present to give their lover, some are lamenting on where to go to avoid such people. Yes, it’s funny. This, however, resulted in this week’s episode of Afrogist: Should Valentine’s Day be cancelled or celebrated?

Well, allow 15 people to air their views on such a controversial but interesting topic.

“Yes ooo. But I don’t have a val.”

Zezi 👀 (F)
Edo State

“I think Valentine’s Day is a day to be celebrated. The reasons are simple. It’s a day of love, not just one kind of love, all kinds of love. People are having issues appreciating this unique and special day because they have side lined it’s purpose. The world has made it a day for only lovers when it really shouldn’t be so. We have other people that love us, why wouldn’t we celebrate the day with them, show them how much we love them too?

When we begin to see that Valentine’s Day is for all kinds of love and not just the erotic ones, we’ll learn to celebrate the day better. Also, it’s my birthday, and I think it makes me feel lucky to be born on such a beautiful day 🥰.”

“Celebrated abeg, make I dey do awwwwwn as I no get boyfriend.”

Babygirl (F)
Benin City

“It should be celebrated by those in love, engaged or married, but honestly, the holiday is being abused by children and adolescents who know nothing about the word, ‘love’😂”

Someone😂 (F)
Nigeria

“Please cancel it, we have too many unnecessary holidays in a year.

I am not a hater.

PS: my partner celebrates and loves me all the time.”

Princess lee (F)
California

“It should be celebrated 😁. Because that’s the only time I really know those who are in a cats chase.”

Jaimie (F)
Nigeria

“Yes it should be celebrated.”

Muanya (F)
Nigeria

“No… I always look forward to that day to celebrate real intimacy.”

Honourable (M)
Nigeria

“Yes o. It is one of the few days that remind people of their love lives.”

Manasseh (M)
Benin City

“It shouldn’t be cancelled o, one good turn deserves another… One day I go collect my own gift😂”

“Well, not as if it’s a big deal. But if it should be celebrated at all, it should be done right. Love isn’t… The pressure is very unnecessary. Our children should be brought up to see it as a day to celebrate love and love in general so they will not grow up to become love starved adults looking for something to prove.”

Ese (F)
Ibadan

“Celebrated. It’s a season of love. Besides, even if you’re single now, that special person will come later, even though the idiot is late. Besides, it’s love. Love should always be celebrated.”

Maybel (F)
Lagos

“First of all, Valentine is a memorable day for a Rev. Father who went out of his way to get two love birds married then he was killed. People just don’t understand the meaning of it. But all the same it shouldn’t be cancelled.”

Perry (F)
Nigeria

“Valentine is just trash abeg…disturbing everybody’s life (especially single people) because of what I don’t even know sef…in fact, they should just kill all those single people because they want to celebrate valentine. Rubbish!!!!”

Angry black woman (F)
Los Angeles

“Cancelled 👏👏👏 Yes, I’m single. What? All these couples will be oppressing somebody anyhow. If you are in a relationship on Valentine’s Day, and you post any stupid picture/video, that relationship will fail before the end of the year🚶‍♀️🚶‍♀️”

Lady (F)
Nigeria

What do you think? Is Valentine’s Day overrated? Or is it just low key bitterness? Lol. Either way, Afrolady wishes you a very happy Valentine’s Day. Also, please make sure you buy a gift for someone, could just be a friend. It is the season of love after all.

❤️❤️❤️

See you next week. The next episode is with respect to the couples in the house. I’m sure even you, yes you, have a story to tell. Enjoy!!!

How do you sincerely feel about 2023 Valentine's Day?
