14 People Share Their Worst Friendship Breakup Stories

Afrogist, people share, friendship, breakup, breakup stories,

Friendship is a special thing we’ve all had. After all, by nature, man cannot live alone. At some point, it gets boring, even lonely if we’re being true to ourselves. There are some friendships that stay, some that we still have but are unsure about, and then some that have been broken over the years. There’s a very popular saying, “friends come and go.” However, no matter how much we lose friends along this journey called life, there’s always that one friend whose absence left a scar in our heart; either temporary or permanent.

In this episode of Afrogist, we compiled the worst friendship breakup stories of twelve people. Read and see that your story is not the worst of them all.

“We broke up because she hit me on my head after an argument. We were around 6 or 7 then. LOL.”

Gee-na (F)
Lagos, Nigeria

“I really don’t have a breakup story. I’m easygoing. However, I know a friend who broke up with her childhood friend because the friend cheated on her with her boyfriend, lied about it, and later admitted to it and didn’t apologize for her wrong. Pretty horrible. Over 8 years of friendship.”

Linda (F)
Lagos, Nigeria

“So, I was with this girl. I was supposed to be taking her on Algebra but feelings came in and I couldn’t resist. One thing led to another and a student-teacher relationship turned to a romance full relationship. Got me always going home every two weekends in disguise just to get some b**bs. At a point, the girl wanted to change buh I wasn’t ready for that. Then she started avoiding me untill she stopped talking to me. Took me about two good weeks to recover from her absence… Buh we move…”

Random Guy (M)
Benin, Nigeria

“I have had too many shocking ones; they all end the same. We grew apart because we chose to “grow up”. It is the ugly side of the term “maturity”.”

PH1N1X (M)
Benin, Nigeria

“We were all fine and ok until he started having money and started being proud. You will talk but he won’t listen, saying you are paranoid.
Then he changed his circle of friends. Everything you guys did before for fun became stupid.
I didn’t want to end the friendship but it had to come to an end… all the things I knew about him changed in less than 6 months due to money.
I can’t be starting new friendship with the same person due to level changing…many
But I will always care for him oh, my guy, my gee.”

Dumebi (M)
Delta

“This my girlfriend won’t let me have other friends in peace, constant comparisons. Her insecurity level was too high Abeg.
I had to move and the worst part was her thinking that our breakup was due to my other friends.”

Princess lu (F)
Benin

“Well, I wouldn’t say breakup, I would say life happened and everyone moved on. It was with my girlfriends, Mellah and Princess. We met at Jamb tutorials, Cambridge in Lagos. We 3 were so close with so much potentials, we lived in the same estate so it was a beautiful one.
By the time I moved out of Lagos, everything changed, we couldn’t keep up. I tried reaching out when I could, but you know how life can be. Then a time came when I saw Mellah on Facebook, I tried reaching out even on Instagram, her response was so cold and discouraging since then I blocked her in my heart and stopped all the search. For Princess, she is still in my contact, she entered after years and after then, it wasn’t as before again, we couldn’t connect well as before.
It was really painful and ever since I stopped overthinking on friendships. Some will go while others will stay, it is just life.”

Baby girl (F)
Nigeria

“My “friends” have consistently disappointed me over the years. They have proven to be friendly in lip service alone. They have never been there when I really needed them. I haven’t broken the news to them but they’ll get the message soon.”

Bee (F)
Benin

“This girl will be forming holiness and be judging you. While she will be doing her own codedly.
My classmates will be giving me gist but I won’t believe. Until she first had sex, she started advising me to go and do oh. See me see wahala. I just used university to escape from her.”

Tobe (F)
Lagos

“In Secondary school, my guy kissed my crush. And he was aware that I liked her O. We are still friends but it’s difficult to introduce him to my present babe.
I guess the friendship broke then but I didn’t have the energy to just block him out.”

Kolade (M)
Abeokuta

“When you hear stories of how your girlfriend slept with your boyfriend, it hits differently.
They were dating behind me. Only for me to want to plan a surprise party for her and secretly took her boyfriend’s number from her phone and dialed it to see my boyfriend’s name… All the tomato cream stories that she always tells me about him and how he works offshore that’s why I haven’t met him.
I broke her phone due to shock, the rest is history.”

“You don’t quarrel with this person but you wake up one morning and noticed they blocked you across broads from fb, to Twitter, to insta, text, Calls. No form of communication.”

Muss (M)
Benin

“Ok walk with me. I still ask myself if I was too harsh. She was not only my best friend but my childhood friend for more than 10 years. We stayed in the same neighborhood, were in the same class, even our parents and siblings were friends. We even went to the same college, yes that’s how close we were and made up. It was like nothing could separate us. When we quarreled, we were so close that it was our families that usually reconciled us.

However, in my sophomore year, she started behaving strangely. She’ll collect money from my bank account without telling me and not payback. I’ll only know after I got the alert. She started staying late nights, started quarreling with me for no reason, and blaming me unnecessarily. In fact, it’s like she just suddenly changed. Tried reaching out to her but she never opened up to me. To cut the long story short, the day we finally broke up completely, she withdrew a large amount of money from my bank account without telling me first.

Normally I’ll wave it away but this period, I really did not have anything on me, no food, and now no money. Asked her, she didn’t even apologize. Acted like I was being stingy when she really needed the money. I kicked her out of my house, literally packed all her things out, blocked her across all social media platforms, blocked her family as well, and warned my family never to speak her name. I suffered from withdrawal symptoms (and hunger) for months, that’s how much I missed her.”

“My boyfriend of three years, the man I gave my virginity to, caught him in bed with my best friend. He was my first in like everything. The b*tch still had the audacity to justify herself. Almost committed suicide was depressed for weeks. Couldn’t read, couldn’t work, did not even want to see or speak to anyone. But thank God I’m in a much better place now, both emotionally, financially, and relationship-wise.”

Okay, it’s obvious some of the people here are still hurting. Nevertheless, when you forgive, you free yourself of the burden of pain, self-blame, and doubt. Instead of it becoming just a painful one, the memory becomes one of the important lessons life teaches. Hope you enjoyed this week’s episode. Hope to see you next week.
