Activist Kenechukwu Okeke Sues 50 Nigerians For Their Alleged Roles In The EndSars Protests

While the Adamu Garba’s case against Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey stews in Nigerian courts, Kenechukwu Okeke files a suit against fifty Nigerians including celebrities/public figures like Davido, Pastor Sam Adeyemi, Mr Macaroni, Burna Boy, FK Abudu, Peter Okoye, Falz and others.

Kenechukwu Okeke who on 30th May 2020 tweeted, “On behalf of the Nigerian people, I will initiate a fundamental rights action against @PoliceNG @Nigeriangov within 30 days, if @PoliceNG officers are not subjected to a mandatory psychiatric evaluation and mentally ill officers committed to an asylum thereof.

Officers of @PoliceNG must undergo psychiatric evaluation in view of the wanton extra-judicial killings and gross abuse of human rights by these officers.

We cannot afford to lose any more citizens to the @PoliceNG that is meant to protect them.

#NigerianLivesMatter”

Seems to have taken a full 360 turn with this recent move.

Who is Kenechukwu Okeke?

Kenechukwu Okeke is a Nigerian activist who has grown popular as a result of the peculiar lawsuits he has filed against the government.

In August 2019, Kenechukwu Okeke as the ombudsman for the Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria(TOAN), sued the Anambra state governor, Commissioner for Transport, Inspector General of Police and alleged Revenue Raketeers.

He demanded court sanction on these parties for “infringing upon the rights of members of TOAN” by banning the use of tricycles within the state.

A post by Proshare on Monday 30th 2019 also talked about his lawsuit against Anambra state governor, Governor Willie Obiano. The post partly read:

“Mr KeneChukwu Okeke the National Coordinator of Good Governance Initiative has sued the Executive Governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano over the process by which the 2019 appropriation bill was passed in the country.

Mr Okeke said the manner in which the appropriation bill passed by the State House of Assembly on the 13th of December, 2018 was illegal and unconstitutional.”

Kenechukwu Okeke Sues 38 Influential Nigerians

On the 30th of October, Kenechukwu Okeke tweeted “I shall instigate a private criminal prosecution against all alleged perpetrators and coordinators of the Endsars riots on Twitter. The nation bled, lives lost and properties worth billions destroyed as a result of the sheer recklessness of some persons”

Kenechukwu Okeke has gone ahead to file a complaint before an Abuja court, against 50 persons for their alleged roles in the protests against police brutality. His claims are as follows:

“That the 1st to 50th accused persons, between the 3rd day of October, 2020 and the 28th day of October, 2020 using Twitter, an internet web resource with URL (https://www.twitter.com) within the jurisdiction of this humble court did conspire among themselves to commit misdemeanor, to wit, promoting or acting in such a manner, with the intent to assist in the promotion of an unlawful assembly under the guise or composition of #EndSARS, thereby committed an offense punishable under Section 97 (2) of the penal code act, C(53) laws of the Federation of Nigeria, 2004.

“The 1st to 50th accused persons with the intent to carry out a common purpose, assemble in such a manner or being assembled under the composition of “#EndSARS” as to cause persons in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja to fear on reasonable grounds that such assembly needlessly and without any reasonable occasion may provoke other persons tumultuous to disturb the peace.

Properties belonging to the complainant were egregiously destroyed by some riotous and tumultuous person(s) instigated and incited by the 1st to 50th person.”

In summary, Kenechukwu Okeke is suing these 50 Nigerians on grounds that they allegedly incited the riotous happening during the Endsars protests. He also blames them for the alleged loss of his properties to hoodlums and looters.
