Nicki Minaj’s Arrest Starts A Social Media Storm

Nicki Minaj’s Arrest

Fans of Nicki Minaj were left furious when the American rapper’s concert at Manchester’s Co-op Live arena was abruptly canceled due to her arrest at Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. The rapper was seen having a tense argument that played out on her live. Let’s delve into the details.

The Instagram Live Incident of Nicki Minaj’s Arrest

In a video lasting over three minutes, Minaj engaged in a heated conversation with an Amsterdam police officer. The backdrop was her being detained, and the tension was palpable. The officer informed her that she was being detained “because you’re carrying drugs.”

The “Anaconda” rapper wasted no time asserting her rights. “I’m not carrying drugs,” she declared firmly. Her next move was to demand legal representation. “I need a lawyer present,” she insisted, emphasizing the urgency with a resolute “now.” The officer’s response was cryptic: “We’ll get you to the next show.” Minaj, unyielding, challenged him: “You’re talking about my show? What about it?” The exchange unfolded live on her Instagram page, leaving fans both concerned and curious.

As news of Minaj’s arrest spread, fan accounts on various platforms reshared the Instagram Live footage. And the “Barbs” were not having it. Hashtags like #FreeNicki began trending, with supporters rallying behind their favorite artist.

Police Response

Minaj was arrested on suspicion of exporting soft drugs and fined 350 euros (£300; $380) before being allowed to continue her journey, according to Dutch authorities. Dutch prosecutors informed local media that Minaj was carrying 30 to 100 grams of cannabis, though Minaj claims “the pre-rolls” belonged to her security guard. While it is technically illegal to possess, sell, or produce drugs in the Netherlands, the country has a policy of tolerance towards the sale and possession of small amounts of certain drugs.

As a result, she didn’t make it to Manchester in time for her Saturday concert, which was postponed while around 20,000 fans waited in the arena for her to take the stage.

Fans were admitted into the arena at 19:00 BST, remaining hopeful that the concert would proceed until the postponement was announced shortly after 21:30 BST, around the scheduled time for Minaj to take the stage. Some boos were heard in the Manchester arena before everyone began to file out.

On social media, Minaj shared that she had been in a jail cell for five to six hours before finally arriving at her hotel in Manchester around midnight.

They succeeded at their plan to not let me get on that stage tonight,” she wrote on X, without saying who she was referring to. “Please please please accept my deepest & most sincere apologies… They sure did know exactly how to hurt me today but this too, shall pass. They’ve been doing this over & over & over & over & over again & I’ve tried so hard to not discuss it b/c [because] you guys deserve to just get the good stuff. I hate involving you in anything that isn’t for entertainment purposes only.”
