20 People Share Their Thoughts on Posting Everything on Social Media
There’s a new trend with this generation. From their first baby steps, to their first kiss, everything is shared online. The sense of privacy and the need to keep some things personal seems to not be of importance anymore. Hence, this week’s episode on Afrogist: should everything be posted on social media? Enjoy!!
“I think everyone should be allowed to post what they want to post. All the witch-hunting is not necessary.”
Ewa (F)
Edo State
“People don’t NEED to post everything on social media but I guess we all have different reasons for posting stuff. Some persons just post out of impulse without thinking of likely negative repercussions.”
Upjay (M)
Ibadan, Nigeria
“No, It’s not nice.
I don’t think the world needs to know what’s going on in my life. The less they know the better. “
Gee (M)
Nigeria
“Yes. I want to pepper my enemies. They know I’ve suffered, they should also know that I am enjoying. 😂”
Goodness (F)
Lagos State
“Post-it (with sense)! They would still get to know eventually shar.”
Filda (M)
Nigeria
“No I don’t think so.. Some things just have to be private.”
Eljay (F)
Benin
“Nope. Not everything has to be posted.”
Alvira (F)
Nigeria
“I feel people should just do as they see fit. Although, when it comes to being safety conscious, giving all info about yourself on social media isn’t advisable. You never know who your enemies are. Thus, privacy sometimes will do you a lot of good.”
Chinwe (F)
Lagos
“Social media ain’t a free space, ain’t a therapy session, I always wonder why people give random strangers a 100 percent access into their lives? But on the other hand some people are really lonely in real life and get engaged on social media so they don’t stay lonely but bruh half of the people on social media ain’t normal so why trust them with access to your life? Iono sha”
Efe (M)
Nigeria
“One day, I saw someone post a video of herself and her friends drunk and hungover from a crazy party. They were displaying weirdly. She probably posted that in a drunk/high state. It was so weird, I literally cringed. Hell no, not everything should be put up on social media!!”
Oghenero (F)
Edo State
“Nope
Somethings should be private
But it depends on the person shall”
Peace (F)
Nigeria
“Yeah.
But only if your setting is ‘only me’.”
Tunde (M)
Nigeria
The people I find most annoying are the ones that form mature about not posting when immediately they are in the fine location (hotels, planes), they post pictures. I find those sets of people annoying and have low self-esteem.
“Honestly, I believe it’s a personal decision and no one should set up rules or standards; as far you are doing it from a genuine place in your heart, it is fine.
The only reason people hide things from social media is because of their experience, not that they are broke or have nothing to post about.
Post pictures because you feel like and not to show somebody somewhere that you are living the dream life.”
Tolani (F)
Lagos
“When you live a private life and all your friends are on your handles, I think it will be fine to share both your wins and losses, so they are aware of where you are. Posting everything on Social media is not advisable because you are prey to cyber frauds, and also making yourself vulnerable to insecurity.”
Chuks Kay (M)
Enugu
“Not everything per say… But useful information. A job post, inspirational post etc something that gives your readers or viewers value. Not you putting yourself on their face with brags.”
Gee (M)
Nigeria
“No. What’s the point of posting? It’s just as simple as some things shouldn’t be on social media.”
Nonso (M)
Lagos
“One day, I saw a mutual friend post a picture of his dead grandmother, embalmed and lying still in a wooden coffin. She was wrapped in white clothes (iro and Buba) and had on a pair of beautiful, white shoes. Her hands were covered in light white gloves, and I could almost see the decay of her skin underneath. She had on an exaggerated gele that looked like it had the map of the land of the dead, engraved on it. I could not begin to conceive how anyone would be so disrespectful both to the living (those viewing his content feed) and to the dead (I’m sure if she could reach him, she’d give him a terrible slap for violating her dead body in such a manner) and still have the breath of life!
There was no warning before I stumbled on that image.(MHSRIP) One minute I was watching funny comedy skits, the next I was staring at something that should have been only private.
It’s been three years, and I still remember that picture vividly like it was yesterday
So, no! Hell no! People should not post everything on social media. Truth is, nobody’s interested in your business anyway. Why make a fool of yourself regardless?!!!”
Queen (F)
Lagos State
“The truth is that there’s really no hard die rule to this. What you may deem fit enough to post online would be someone else’s taboo-line. You can post your happy or sad moments online, but check first to be certain whatever you’re putting out there does not promote or encourage toxicity, oppression and violence. If there’s a slight bit of malicious intent behind your contents, then maybe you’re part of the social media problem we’ve got going on today.”
Talkative (F)
Uganda🇺🇬
“No, it’s not good for everyone to know your business. Let’s face it we’re Nigerians, no amount of technology can remove the ever present spiritual ramifications.”
Spandex (F)

Posting everything on social media, a yay or a nay? It’s a topic that seems to be getting more and more controversial as the years go by. Fewer and fewer people see the need for a private life. Nevertheless, experiences, joys, sorrows, all these are sometimes nice to share, for awareness and for celebrations. But, moderation is always wise in everything.
Have a lovely weekend and see you next week 😉❤️.
